How to bid with San Marcos Unified School District
An inland North County district. It uses CUPCCAA rules, so how a job goes out depends on its size, and it often builds bond projects through lease-leaseback contracts with a shortlist of large firms.

How jobs go out, by size
| Job size or type | How it goes out | What you do |
|---|---|---|
| Up to $75,000 | District staff may do the work, or the district negotiates directly with a contractor or just buys materials. No public bid. | Introduce your company to the district. |

| Over $220,000 | Formal bid, publicly advertised. Bids are opened in public and the lowest bid wins. | Watch the district's Bid Proposal Opportunities page. |
Get on the list, step by step
- Make sure your DIR public works registration is current. California requires it to bid public works.
- Ask the district how to join its approved CUPCCAA list. Its pages say contractors generally apply yearly but do not show a sign-up form.
- For contracts of $1 million or more, primes and electrical, mechanical and plumbing subs (A, B, C-4, C-7, C-10, C-16, C-20, C-34, C-36, C-38, C-42, C-43, C-46) must prequalify on PQBids (pqbids.com/san-marcos-unified-school-district) at least 10 business days before bids are due. Approval lasts one year.
- Check the Bid Proposal Opportunities page for formal bids, lease-leaseback, RFQ and RFP openings (none open on 2026-11-02).
