How jobs go out, by size

| Over $220,000 | Formal bid, released on PlanetBids. Many projects need prequalification (separate forms for $220,000 to $999,999 and $1 million and up). Jobs of $1 million and up fall under the district's Community Benefits Agreement. | Register on PlanetBids and send in the prequalification form at least 10 business days before the bid is due. |
All current prequalifications expire December 31, 2026, so contractors need to reapply for 2027.
Get on the list, step by step
- Make sure your DIR public works registration is current. California requires it to bid public works. SDCCD marks your PlanetBids registration incomplete without your DIR number.
- Register on SDCCD's PlanetBids portal (planetbids.com) with all your NAICS codes and CUPCCAA in Category/Description. That puts you on the Informal Bidding Contractors List. Renew every year.
- Email DistrictCapitalPlanning@sdccd.edu to join the Business Outreach Database for advance notice of projects.
- For bigger jobs, send in a prequalification application at least 10 business days before the bid is due. Primes and subs may both need it.
